As a new academic year begins, Washington University in St. Louis is unveiling a new visual identity and an enhanced effort to communicate its important contributions in the areas of education, research and patient care to key internal and external audiences.

Andrew Knight has been named executive director of WashU’s George and Carol Bauer Leaders Academy and senior advisor to the chancellor for leadership.

Chancellor Andrew D. Martin has established a Global Advisory Council to maximize the impact of Washington University in St. Louis’ global efforts in research, education, patient care, recruitment and advancement.

Washington University in St. Louis announced today that Sandro Galea, MD, DrPH, one of the world’s most influential public health leaders, will become the inaugural Margaret C. Ryan Dean of the university’s planned School of Public Health, effective Jan. 1.

Washington University in St. Louis’ work with and for the St. Louis region will now have new places to call home, with new off-campus office space located alongside other community-focused organizations and a new website to help community members navigate the university’s St. Louis initiatives.

Washington University in St. Louis continues to play a vital role in the local economy, providing jobs, supporting local businesses and drawing millions in research dollars to the region.

Dozens of noted scientists, philanthropists, and university, state and local leaders gathered Jan. 18 to celebrate the dedication of one of the world’s largest neuroscience research buildings.

“My predecessor and his leadership team, along with the Board of Trustees, decided that this was something that we were going to work on very intentionally,” said Martin. “A university’s budget, in many respects, is a statement of its values and priorities, and so we began investing significant amounts of our own resources into financial aid.”

“We are deeply committed to making a WashU education accessible for all talented students who earn admission,” Chancellor Andrew D. Martin said. “We have worked hard to make good on our promise to remove financial barriers for all admitted undergraduate students, regardless of their socioeconomic backgrounds. We want to get them here, support them during their time here, and prepare them to do great things. Now, when they graduate from WashU, they will do so debt-free.”

In a moment when freedom of expression is under attack on American campuses, Washington University in St. Louis Chancellor Andrew D. Martin urged the Class of 2027 to fearlessly explore their ideas and encourage others to do the same.
